From informal gathering to incorporated association

For years, Lake Julia property owners gathered informally each summer to discuss shared concerns and enjoy the lake together. In 2004, that tradition was formalized when the group incorporated as the Lake Julia Association, Inc. (LJA) — a Wisconsin Non-Stock Corporation, organized under articles and bylaws drafted by attorney Thomas J. Drought (#5, #6, #10).

The Corporation is comprised of 'members', loosely defined as persons owning property or residing in homes located on the shoreline of Lake Julia, and other persons supporting the general purposes of the Corporation.

How we're organized

Members

All shoreline property owners and regular lake users. Members elect the Board of Directors and vote on bylaw amendments (requiring a 2/3 majority).

Bylaws note

The 2004 corporate organizing documents have not been amended since their adoption. Any provision may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the Membership. Governing documents are available in the Documents section.

Meeting of Members

The Annual Meeting of Members — for the election of directors and any other business — is held on a weekend day shortly before or after the Fourth of July. The timing is intentional: it maximizes attendance by lake families who may only be present during the summer holiday period.

The meeting typically includes a lake picnic and community social. See past meeting records →
